Nvidia's blowout keeps AI ETFs in the running

The record quarter validated the AI buildout; the real question is which ETF wrapper should own it.

Nvidia answered the capital-markets question Wednesday after the bell, and the answer, as ETF Trends reports, is that the AI buildout trade still has its running shoes on. The beat and raise arrived just as Wall Street had grown more critical of hyperscaler capital expenditures and supply capacity, and it came in the specifics the skeptics had doubted: revenue up 106% year over year to a record $96.2 billion, non-GAAP EPS of $2.22 against the $2.09 estimate, and a Data Center segment that grew 117% to $89 billion, with Edge Computing adding $7.2 billion, up 27%. CEO Jensen Huang framed the moment in terms an ETF investor can use: "AI has reached its inflection point... Now, compute is revenue."

For ETF investors, the quarter settles the theme and opens a wrapper question, because the exposure options run from single-stock and leveraged instruments — the FT Vest NVDA & Target Income ETF among them — to semiconductor funds and broad technology funds. The first group, per ETF Trends, is built for short-term tactical traders; the second carries diversified structural exposure to the buildout, so the choice is a genuine fork: single-stock tools are timing positions on one name, while semis and broad tech funds are portfolio positions on an infrastructure cycle.

Nvidia's guidance gives the tactical crowd another catalyst — $108 billion in projected Q3 revenue at 74% gross margins, plus $26 billion returned to shareholders in the quarter and $99 billion remaining under buyback authorization — and this publication made the point last week when Broadcom's slide turned single-stock ETFs into a timing problem. Nvidia's own tape now argues both ways: the concentrated vehicles amplify a record quarter, and they would likely amplify a guidance miss just as fast.

Advisors who chose the diversified wrapper can hold through the next one without trading this print, because the quarter's numbers now describe a multi-year buildout spanning data center, edge, and sovereign demand. Tactical tools will have their moment around the next catalyst. The broad funds have the cycle.
